The inaugural meeting of the Massa- chusetts Horticultural Society was held January 10, with a larger attendance than for several years. President Endi- cott's address was optimistic in tone. The society membership is now 1,002, the highest in its history, except in 1875 and 1876, when it reached 1,035. He advocated advancing the membership fees, as had been done by the S. A. F., to $50 for life members and $5 per year for annual members, but suggested that a year's notice of the change be given to all members. The treasurer's report showed a substantial increase in re- ceipts for the last year. The reports of a number of the various committees were read and accepted and it was to be regretted that a motion to suspend fur- ther business prevailed. The single hour allotted to this annual meeting is all too short and it is hoped that another year more ample time will be given for its proper transaction. E. H. "Wilson, of the Arnold A
