Short-billed Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus latirostris) Conservation effords, Katanning, South West Australia, February 2007


Carnaby's Black Cockatoo is found only in the south-west of Western Australia. Within this area the species has suffered a range reduction of at least 50 % since the 1970s. Carnaby's Black Cockatoos feed in eucalypt woodlands and kwongan heaths mainly eating the seeds of banksias, hakeas, grevilleas and eucalypts. Nesting occurs in hollows of Salmon Gum (Eucalyptus salmonophloia) and Wandoo (Eucalyptus wandoo).
