Queensland Housing Commission, house at Chermside, August 1949. The Telegraph 17 July 1947 New Housing Area at Chermside 186309833 ) An area of 10 acres between Hamilton Road and Rode Road, Chermside, is to be compulsorily acquired for State housing purposes. The Acting Minister for Works (Mr. Bruce) said that notices of resumption had been served In November on six owners of land In this locality. Negotiations had since resulted in purchase agreements being made by the Housing Commission with three of the land owners. In two of the three remaining cases Executive approval was granted on May 22 for the issue of a proclamation taking the land. The Minister added that, as no settlement by negotiation could be reached with the remaining owner, it had been decided that his land should be compulsorily acquired. The Executive Council also approved the setting aside of 2 roods perches, in the parish of Enoggera for housing purposes. There are four allotments fronting McCormack Avenue, about a mile south of the Enoggera railway station.
