Remarks.—This shell is peculiar in the massive plate onwhich is situated its short and thick lateral tooth, as well asin the very small size of its cardinal tooth. It has scarcelyany cavity under the beaks, the shell being very thick. Itsepidermal rays, in perfect specimens, are very unusual to thisgenus; in old specimens they are almost or quite is remarkable also in its flat umbones. The gibbosus is seldom if ever perfectly white; allthe specimens I have seen of this are perfectly so. 6. Unio Circulus. Plate IX. fig. 14.
