Charles James Stuart (1566-1625), King of England, King of Ireland, and was the first to style himself King of Great Britain. He ruled in Scotland as James VI from July 24, 1567, until the death of Elizabeth I of England in 1603. The first monarch of England from the House of Stuart, he also oversaw the conference at Somerset House in 1604, that ended hostilities between England and Spain
