Hong Kong sampans. Sampans by docks in a suburb of Hong Kong. Sampans are flat-bottomed wooden boats traditionally used in China and areas of South-East Asia. Another type of traditional boat, junks, are seen in the background. This photograph dates from between 1890 and 1923, during the period when Hong Kong was a British Crown Colony.
