Methanoic acid reacting with magnesium ribbon. Methanoic is a carboxylic acid, a weak acid. Methanoic is also known as formic acid. Even in its concentrated form it does not have a very high reaction with magnesium ribbon. Hydrogen gas is released during the reaction.
