Shot of the River Ravensbourne running through a secondary channel in the northern part of Ladywell Fields Park, Lewisham. Ladywell Fields form a valuable green corridor running adjacent to Lewisham High Street. A public foot and cycle path, with street lighting, runs the length of the park and forms an integral section of the Waterlink Way, which starts at Deptford Creek and runs south to the coast at Eastbourne. The northern part of Ladywell Fields has been transformed through the QUERCUS project, financed by the EU Life Environment Fund. QUERCUS set out to create Quality Urban Environments for River Corridor Users and Stakeholders, not only in Ladywell Fields, but also in Cornmill Gardens in Lewisham town centre, and in the two European partner cities, Chester and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands). The project involved making a secondary river channel, meandering through the centre of the park, with bridges, a back water and separate wildlife pool. The renewal of the park was specifically designed to make the space feel safer, and to focus on the park’s unique asset – the River Ravensbourne
