WHEN men suffer their imagination to amusethem, with the distant and uncertain improvementsof their condition, they frequently sustain real losses,by their inattention to those affairs in which they arcimmediately concerned. A country Maid was walking very deliberately?with a pail of milk upon her head, when she fellinto the following train of reflections : The moneyfor which I shall sell this milk, will enable me toincrease my stock of eggs to three hundred. Theseeggs, allowing for what may prove addle, and whatmay be destroyed by vermin, will produce at leasttwo hundred and fifty chickens. The chickenswill be fit to carry to market about Christmas,when poultry always bears a good price ; so that byMay day 1 cannot fail of having money enough topurchase a new Gown.
