Sir John Gilbert's (1817-1897) illustration of the Battle of Agincourt, an English victory in the Hundred Years' War. When King Henry V of England led his troops into battle and participated in hand-to-hand fighting, the unexpected English victory against the numerically superior French army boosted English morale and prestige and crippled France. It started a new period of English dominance in the war that would last for 14 years until France defeated England in the Siege of Orléans in 1429.
