Three quarter side view of UU 6646 a 1929 AEC Regal I T 31 single decker bus at the Cobham Bus Museum Annual Spring Bus Coach gathering at Wisley Airfield Surrey 5th April 2009 Acquired by Museum in 1994 and now fully restored and operational The chassis was built by AEC a company which was originally owned by the London General Omnibus company LGOC and retained close association with London buses throughout its existence The body a LGOC B30R was built by the LGOC T 31 entered service on 31st December 1929 and a conversion to front entrance was carried out in 1931 Originally withdrawn in July 1948 it was reprieved and returned to service being re engined to diesel in June 1950 It began training duties from Hounslow in July 1952 finally being withdrawn in June 1956 It was sold in October 1956 and was the last ex London General Omnibus Company vehicle to be operated by London Transport Purchased by a group for 45 00 it is accepted to be the first bus to be privately preserved Due to extensive body deterioration it was totally rebuilt to original rear entrance specification concealed interior lighting and petrol engine AEC A140 6 1 litre petrol with manual gearbox which was completed in 1979 The Museum bought the vehicle in 1994 with a 50 grant from the Science Museum Prism fund Cobham Bus Museum The London Bus Preservation Trust Ltd Redhill Road Cobham Surrey KT11 1EF Tel 01932 868665 Web site www lbpt org
