By passing the soundinto the uterus and with one hand over the abdomen, the fingers ofthe other hand in the rectum, it is possible under favorable con-ditions to make a fair estimate of the thickness of the uterine wall. Contraindications to the Use of the Sound. 1. not an absolute contraindication, it is better to delay theprocedure until the intermenstrual period. 2. Pregnancy is an absolute contraindication for the passage ofthe sound.
