TyPhoo tea packet 1920s. Vintage Typhoo Tea packet from the 1920s. Tea sold in quarter pound packs with eye-catching designs helped build brand loyalty, and saved shops having to scoop it into packets. The slogans are designed to stress the quality and benefits of the brand, which apparently doctors were recommending for indigestion relief (the name comes from a vague translation of the Chinese word for Doctor. This is a rare double size box, 8 oz. Typhoo ceased to be a family firm in the late Sixties but the tea sold in the UK is still processed and packed on the Wirral.
