Qat. Stems of the Ethiopian Qat or Khat plant (Catha edulis). The stems have been wrapped in banana leaves to preserve their freshness. The leaves and stems of Qat are chewed for their stimulant effect. Qat is grown in Africa, mostly in Ethiopia. The leaves contain the psychoactive compound cathinone, which is structurally and chemically similar to d-amphetamine.
