So long-as it deals fairly with the city it is practically secure fromcompetition, as there are no valuable routes in the heartof the city possible to obtain for a rival system, which arenot pre-empted by its tracks. For a system of this kind there are two policies whichcould be followed regarding further extensions into the sur-rounding country. One is to build for its own benefitpractically every connecting line or extension where there. FANEUIL HALL SQUARE is a possibility of profit, and the other is to allow othercapital to make these further extensions and build feedersfor the main system. The West End Company has alwayspursued the latter policy, which will probably be continuedby the Boston Elevated Railway Company.
