Metastatic Lymph Node Mass

This composite set of images demonstrates an axial (cross sectional) CT image through the upper chest in the upper left hand side and an axial (cross sectional) image through the approximately same level from a PET scan (lower right hand side of image) of the same person. These images show a malignant mass (blue) within the mediastinum on both the morphologic CT exam and the PET scan which demonstrates the hypermetabolic activity of this cancerous mass. This mass is a metastatic lymph node mass from lung cancer in a smoker.
