Caption: Litang, Sichuan, China - Aug 2003. A Tibetan khampa drinks a can of Pepsi-Cola before competing in the shooting event at the Litang Horse Racing Festival in Eastern Tibet. One of the last "undiscovered" places in the world, the former Tibetan kingdom of Kham has long been remote from the outside. Occupied in the early 1950's as part of China's attempt to "unite the motherland", the area - considered politically sensitive - was closed to foreigners up until a few years ago. Despite being one of the poorest and least advantaged areas in China, with little or no social welfare, education or health, Kham opens to the full forces of the market and experiences rapid changes.
