Phra Buddha Maha Dhammaraja | Phetchabun | Thailand

his large Buddha is a recently completed ‘super-size’ replica of the original bPhra Buddha Maha Dhammaraja/b located in a new park next to the main highway in the outskirts of Phetchabun City. This particular Buddha image is a focus of worship for the people of Phetchabun. The image originally resided in Sukhothai, before being moved to its present abode at Tri Bhumi Temple in Phetchabun. It is cast in the ornamental Lopburi style. The original Buddha statue is part of an annual “Ceremony of the Diving a Buddha”. Many years ago the statue disappeared and was found again at the bottom of Pa Sak River. So now every year the Governor of the Province ‘dives’ with the statue into the river at the location it was found. According to tradition, whenever the Governor did not fulfil this duty, the crops became barren that year and the image would mysteriously disappear.
