Thereis no condition that requires more careful nursing andmore constant supervision on the part of the surgeon thanfracture of a vertebra with paralysis of a large portion ofthe body. The patient must be provided with a softmattress free from folds, the sacral region, the heels, etc.,being especially protected by means of water-pillows orcushions filled with millet chaff.
