The foundation of Mr. Cocks education was laid atthe district school, and later he was a student at the pri-vate school founded and maintained for so many yearsby that successful educator Lot Cornelius. In 1867 Mr. Cock was chosen supervisor of the townof Oyster Bay, in which position he was continued by thepeople until April 1872. In the fall of 1871 the Democratic party of the districtselected him as its candidate for State senator. After anactive and exciting canvass Mr. Cock was successful, re-ceiving a majority of 868.
