Of this city, which filled so large a place inhistory, nothing remains except some of its cisterns and anaqueduct, though we are told that it contained many magnifi-cent buildings. The limestone of Red Hill, in West Africa, encloses frag-ments of scoriae, which has associated it with igneousagency ; a variety, forming cliffs east of the mouth of theCongo, or Livingston River, is filled with the Ostrea, whileJurassic strata, with Ammonites, are developed on the eastcoast of the Continent.
