The Befana is the name of a witch, on the night of the 5th on the 6th January in search of the baby Jesus on a broom from house to house flies, brings gifts to good children and punishes bad children with pieces of coal. In many parts of Italy the Befana is the counterpart of Santa Claus, in respect of the gifts.
