A fine view of the Thames at Abingdon on a glowing winter sunrise. We're on the medieval Abingdon Bridge, looking downstream towards St Helen's Wharf - a famous beauty spot by the river - and the Anglo Saxon church of St Helens that the wharf is named after. But the view today is different. After weeks of incessant rain, the Thames has risen by a metre and overflowed, flooding the entire area up to a semi-submerged footpath, still just visible.
