Katikati is a small town in the Bay of Plenty area of New Zealand's North Island. In the early 1990's the town was facing an economic downturn with the decline of the local kiwi fruit industry. A group of artists decided to use artwork to both attract visitors to the town, and for the benefit of local residents. Katikati Open-Air Art Inc. was formed, and members created murals, sculptures and carvings that show the history of the town.
