Chester, a medieval Roman Garrison town. Archaeologically and architecturally the richest city in Britain. It was originally the fortress site of the 20th legion (Valeria Victrix) who suppressed the uprising of the army led by the warrier queen, Boadicea. Known in c. AD70 as Deva, it soon became a major trading port. one of the greatest strategic outposts of the Roman Empire.
