Vintage photo of boxer Sam Langford (1883 - 1956). Canadian-born Langford, nicknamed "The Boston Bonecrusher", "The Boston Terror" and "The Boston Tar Baby", is considered by many to be one of the greatest fighters of all time and arguably the greatest to never fight for a world title. He fought from lightweight to heavyweight but white champions drew "the color line" and refused to face him and Jack Johnson, the first black World Heavyweight Champion, also declined to fight him after winning the title, claiming bouts against other black heavyweights would not draw fans. Langford subsequently claimed the World Colored Heavyweight Championship. Photo circa 1910.
