FiG. 4. REAGENTS. 21. ing about 8 per cent, of anhydrous acid. Obtained by mix-ing 4 parts of water with 1 part of concentrated hydrochloricacid. Concentrated Nitric Acid.—Spec, grav., ; containing 60per cent, of anhydrous acid. When concentrated acids are ap-plied in small tests only by the drop,as, for instance, in testing alkaloids, etc., they are taken from the bottleby dipping a glass rod into the acidand allowing the drop or drops tofall upon the substance to be actedupon, or better by means of a kindof pipette consisting of a thin, strongglass tube, adjusted at one end toa small caoutchouc bulb, and con-tracted at the other extremity toa capillary end. The fluid isdrawn into the tube, and deliveredagain by gentle pressure of the bulb(Fig. 6). Diluted Nitric Acid.—Spec, grav., ; containing 10 percent, of anhydrous acid. Obtained by mixing 4 parts of waterwith 1 part of concentrated nitric acid. Oxalic Acid.—Solution of 1 part of crystallized oxalic acidin 12 parts of water. Acetic Acid.
