This engraving by Nomejn de Heoghe shows the arrival of Dutch envoys in Moscow around 1600. The Dutch began direct trade operations with northern Russia in the 1550s and expanded it in the decades that followed. In the 1630s, the Dutch opened the first European-style mining operations there.
