A splendid war hammer, Poland or Hungary, middle of the 17th century Striking head with a slender octagonal beak grooved on the sides and a chiselled square hammer head. Round socket with long languets on the sides. Round wooden helve with the original shagreen leather cover (minor damage). Three silver mountings with finely engraved and chased tendril decoration. Dented in places at the end of the helve and cracked on one side. Short pointed, quadrangular iron pommel. Length cm. Beautifully made insignia for a high ranking officer or army commander. histo,
