THE lupton cabbage. From a Photograph. DANISH BALL=HEAD CABBAGE. Whi,e. in Denmark in 1886 we discovered a variety of Cabbage called, from the shape of the head, Ball=Head, which the Danes prize so highly that they grow it almost exclusively for winter cabbage, and annually export large quantities. It has been selected for more than fifty years by the Danish gardeners. The seed we offer is our own private importation from one of the best growers in Denmark. The heads are hard, round, of good marketable size, fine grained and good keepers. The heads are not so large as Late Flat Dutch, which is better suited to our market. Per pkt. 10 cts.; oz. 45 cts.; \ lb $ ; per lb § 83g- Above is the description from The Farm Annual for 1893. Since then we have not offered seed of THE DANISH BALL=HEAD, because of its "long legs" it does not make a handsome appearance in the field. However, again the past summer (189o) we traveled through Denmark, in company with our friend, Mr. Pkdersen-Bjergaard, of Copenhagen (author of Seed Groiving in Denmark in our World's Fair book, "Selection in Seed Growing"), and found that the demand from America was steadily increasing both for the cabbages by /he ship-load and also for the seed. This shows conclusively that market gardeners have found it a profitable Cabbage to grow for winter market. We have had Mr. Pedersen secure for us a limited supply of the finest seed, grown in Denmark, on the Island of Amager, and offer as above, at $ per pound, postpaid.
