Yet, in every case, by bathing with cold water, keeping in a dark place, and if moved, keeping the eye covered with a cloth, in ?. few days the eye entirely .SPECIFIC, OJi FERIODIC, UPIITIIALMIA. 583 Once, while training Gifford, one of my old pair of trainedhorses, he ran accidentally against the corner of a stair, striking theeye so severely as to instantly destroy his power of sight ; the eyewas entirely closed, and red with inflammation. In this case I sim-ply kept the eye covered with a cloth kept constantly wet withwater in which was tincture of aconite in the proportion of about40 drops to half a pint of water. There was entire recovery withina week. This mild preparation has proved for mc very efficient inreducing local inflammation. Specific, or Periodic, Ophthalmia, is the most severe affection to which the horses eye is liable, and is very common in this coun-try. The parts principallyand primarily involved arethe internal structures ofthe eye, and the changeswhich occur vary in degreeaccording to the severityof the attack
