The original description indicates a very different plant and it is surprising * According to Walpers, the specific name is reichenbachii, but Labouret, when he transferred it to Cereus, changed it to reichenbachianus and this spelling is used in the Index Kewensis where the plant is taken up under Echinocereus. ere the binomial is credited to Engelmann.
