Highgate Hotel is dated 1769. A wooden lintel above a ground floor window bears the carved inscription 'TO THE DWELLERS IN THIS PLACE GOD GRANTE PEACE'. On either side of the front entrance door are milestones with distances to Edinburgh and London.
