Next came a car with thecity officials and their guests, and, third, a car containingthe Santa Barbara Military Band, with a trailer which wasone of the most novel and striking features of the celebra-tion. It was a platform car decorated with bunting, andstanding upon it were two venerable mules, one white andone black, wearing wreaths of roses. These animals havebeen in the service of the company since 1876, and on oneside of the car appeared the statement, This is our Blanks and Forms in Storeroom and WagesAccounting. The system of storeroom and wages accountingemployed by the Rochester Railvvaj Company, and intro-duced by the general manager, F. O. Rusling, is the resultof careful study and the experience of a niimber of years,and while seemingly very complete and effective, is alsoextremely simple. The basis of the system throughoutis to keep a careful record of all supplies received andissued and the labor employed in each department, fromwhich the cost of all construction and repair work done bythe company can be readily determined.
