Ebola virus research. Researcher working with Ebola virus samples in a glove box. This virus causes ebola virus disease (EVD), a severe and often fatal disease that is transmitted to humans via close contact with the bodily fluids of infected animals. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhoea and haemorrhaging (internal bleeding). There is no cure for the disease, but three quarters of patients can recover if provided with sufficient medical support. Photographed in the Pasteur Institute, Paris, France.
