An old Whitby photograph (circa 1940's?) from the air showing the town before redevelopment of the Dock End and railway coal yard areas where the Co-op store was eventually built. Also shown is the second Whitby Abbey monks fish pond (bottom left) that has now been filled in. Erosion of the cliffs, (right) had now occurred with much of the fields falling into the sea. The 'market' cross on the present Abbey Plain is seen here with the abbey grounds.
