Raynaud's disease. Finger of a 46 year old female patient with Raynaud's disease. The disease has caused splinter haemorrhages, lines of discolouration under the fingernails, and an ulcer. Raynaud's disease is a vasospastic condition, in which the hands or feet develop an abnormal nervous response to cold. A spasm or contraction occurs in the muscle which surrounds the blood vessels in the fingers or toes. This constriction restricts the blood flow and the fingertips become bluish in colour, numb and sore.
