The sage-plains of Colorado and New Mexico are THE PACIFIC RAILWAYS. repeated wearisomely between Omaha and Cheyenne, and in the great Humboldt Desert; themiraculous mesas, or table-lands, of the Black Hills and the Yellowstone, with their broadly-definedstrata of crude color, have their counterparts on the borders of Green River ; the fantastic erosionsof sandstones that have made Monument Park famous crop out on the line so frequently, that theycease to excite any wonder ; and the grandeur of the abrupt cafions that cleave the heart of the mainRocky range may be judged from the sheer walls
