Buds of Adam's needle (Yucca filamentosa), also known as bear grass and weak-leaf yucca. With the inflorescence borne on an erect spike, this plant can reach up to metres in height. It is native to southeastern North America and its tolerance to drought enables it to grow in dry, sandy or rocky habitats. It has the unusual property that it can be grown from cuttings of roots and offshoots, as well as seeds.
