TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER CAVALRY. 209 On the 1st of June, 1863, he was sworn into the U. as a recruiting officer, came back to the CrabOrchard and assisted in recruiting company C of theThirteenth Tennessee Cavalry and went out with theRegiment in September to Strawberry Plains. -He wasappointed 1st Sergt. of Co. C, and promoted to SecondLieutenant of the company September 14, 1864. Hewas in nearly all the important fights in which the Regi-ment was engaged. He was in the fight at Greeneville,Tenn., September 4, 1864, in which Gen. Morgan waskilled, was severely wounded in the charge at Morris-town on the 28th of October, 1864. He was on the lastStoneman raid as far as Asheville, N. C, where he wasleft in charge of commissary stores. He was musteredout with the Regiment at Knoxville, Tenn., September5th, 1865.
