Untreated sewage pumped into Lake Windermere .Laying of pipe work to allow untreated raw sewage to be pumped into Lake Windermere the overflow outlet 100 metres from the shore .This overflow is only to be used in extreme circumstances .Previously the overflow went into Bowness Bay ,across a tourist beach ,this is now diverted and pumped under the Glede coming out off shore at Cockshot Point beauty spot .BBC REPORT :15 May 2024, 00:06 BST Millions of litres of raw sewage were illegally pumped into one of England's most famous lakes after a fault, the BBC can reveal.
