It is a perfectly hardy perennial vine, blooming early in June and in great profusion inverted pea-shaped flowers one ;ind one- half to two and one-half inches in diameter, and ranging in color from a rosy violet to a reddish purple, with a broad, feathered white marking through the center. The large buds and the back of the flowers are pure white, making it appear as if one plant bore many different col- ored flowers at one time. Occasionally plants bear white flowers, while others are broadly margined with a white feathering. Blooming stems placed in water remain fresh for many days. It bears its flowers until cut down by frost. It is well adapted for every garden purpose and especially as a climber, running six to eight feet in a season. 20 cents each; $2 per dozen. Oineraria.
