Cigar chest. Diehl and Fremiet’s eccentric furniture created a great stir at the Exposition Universelle of 1867 in Paris. This cigar box consists of quasi-medieval masonry in wood, and monster heads, dragons and snakes in silvered bronze. The crowned salamander withstanding the flamesrefers to another period: it was a personal emblem of the 16th-century French king François I.
