Little grebe Tachybaptus ruficollis, chestnut on cheeks and neck, lime green spot at base of bill brownish plumage white powder puff like rear GCNewt
This image was taken from a distance so it has been cropped but clearly shows a prey resembling a great crested newt due to the size as the great crested newt is the largest ones in the uk. However I had considered at first that the prey may have been a like the now extinct in the uk ..Burbot? But I saw the feet, but only one pair seems to be on show? The little grebe is a small diving bird and was near the reeds in shallow water where newt's may be living. Just saying so you can check for yourself.
