The Town Hall, originally designed by Sir John Vanburgh, dates from 1870 and was given to the town by Lord James Joicy in 1919. The unusual free standing Clock Tower is 17 th century. It's originally one handed clock came from nearby Bothal Castle, hence the four spaces between the numbers to tell the quarter hours. "Capability" Brown and William Turner were both born in Morpeth and Lord Admiral Collingwood lived here.
