After mastering thedetails of the business he was transferred to the house of Brown,Shipley & Co., London, England, where he remained for sevenyears. Being a good American, and preferring life in New York tothat of London, he left the last-named firm and returned to theUnited States. He then became a member of the New YorkStock Exchange. That was in March, 1882. He then formed 30.
