Pursuing his advantagegained at Yellow Tavern, General Sheridan modea bold dash upon the outer defenses of first line was carried, Custers brigade captur-ing a section of artillery and over 100 second line being too strong to nssail, and asthe garrison rallied for the defense, Sheridan retiredtoward the Chickahominy. Crossing at MeadowBridge, he drove the Confederates from his front,and repulsed an attack upon his rear by Confede-rate infantry from the city.
