American Marine, Corporal Bill A. Berkheimer, from Cleburne, Texas, is seen holding a Communist flag he discovered while on patrol during Operation Fortress Ridge in Vietnam. This photograph was taken on January 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War. The flag, along with propaganda leaflets and a large banner, were found just south of the Demilitarized Zone, where Corporal Berkheimer was serving with "I" Company, 3rd Battalion, First Marine Regiment. The image was captured and released by the United States Department of Defense.
