Another variety is known as the Patavinian fowl,which is believed to be the progenitor of the Polish breed. The cockis described as exceedingly beautiful, being richly decorated with fivecolors, black, white, green, red, and ocher. The body is black, theneck covered with white feathers, and the wings and back partly. In the hen there is no white except the white pellicle at theopening of the ears. She is altogether of a greenish-black color, withyellow feet and a very small comb slightly tinged with red. The general characteristics of the Polish are those of small tomedium sized fowls, larger than the Hamburgs; a full, round breast,carried well forward; the neck of the cock beautifully arched; astraight back, broad at the shoulders, and narrowing rapidly to thetail; large and closely folded wings; a large, well-expanded tail,which in the cock is furnished with an abundance of tail coverts and 51 30 sickle feathers; shanks of a blue or slaty-blue
