Poll Tax Riots, London

On 31st March 1990 I was in London I was walking near Trafalgar Square when I saw some middle aged ladies with placards in their hands walking away I didn't know what was going on at that stage. Then I saw a line of people obviously watching something. I could just see above their heads workmen's cabins perched half way up a building on fire. I had my camera and wanted a better view. I soon found that all roads into Trafalgar Square were blocked except Old Scotland Yard. I made my way in and found that the main part of the rioting had moved on but saw some of the devastation they had left behind. The riots were about the Community Charge introduced by Margaret Thatcher's Convervative government and nicknamed the poll tax after an unpopular tax of the 14th century.
